So What is immersion?

If we look to the dictionary we find that immersion is “ absorbing involvement, instruction based on extensive exposure to surroundings or conditions that are native or pertinent to the object of study”.

Students at St. Ignatius have that opportunity every day through classroom study. This is an opportunity that most children will never have. So why then do we bother with Immersion camps?

Immersion camps give the students an opportunity to take English learning and immersion out of the classroom and into a different setting in which they must use their english.

Moreover, immersion camps provide students with the chance to become even more immersed in not only the language, but the culture that surrounds the language. Further giving them a more realistic context in which English is necessary for communication.
